Name Kyle DeMersAbout I'm Kyle, and I'm a designer. I graduated from Plattsburgh State University of New York in 2007 with a degree in (you guessed it) graphic design. During that time, I've done designs for many people, including the school itself, and served as a tutorial assistant to students and gave them the important building blocks to being a smart designer. I moved to Boston in March 2008, and since then I have interned with Big Fish Communications in Brookline and worked as a designer for half a year for the AMP Agency, an experiential promotions firm savvy in the 18-24 demographic in Boston. As a whole I've always enjoyed the art world, and illustration was particularly my specialty, but there was something about design that was really exciting - it has the ability to control the world. How something looks ultimately affects our superficial judgment, and sends us a message about what we expect out of something. If something is shoddily designed, you can bet it's probably a store-brand can of corn. If something is elaborate and beautiful, it attracts us with its good looks and rugged charm and forces us to pay top dollar. That said, a lot of thought goes into my designs. Some may just "look cool" to people, but there's always a purpose. Did you see the wine bottle labels? The equalizer in the back is supposed to signify the sound of a rooster's crow (the company being Rooster Hill Vineyards). It may look neat and everything, but it's great to actually have a REASON for design. You can put meaning into a product and not over-art it. I love combining the modern with the dated and turning it into something timeless. I'm fascinated by old architecture and buildings under progress. Most of my work is influenced by the objects I find reflecting these things. I also like to use wit and a sense of humor to break through creative boundaries to come up with something pretty cool. I think it's important to not take yourself too seriously in the field, because you get so caught up in your own mentality that you forget to listen to the most important people: your clients. I'm completely open to new ideas and artwork to inspire me. I'm available for hire, be it full-time or freelance. My contact information is in the side column, so don't hesitate to e-mail or call. I look forward to working with you. If you still need to see more of my work, just click on my name at the top of the page! |
